Sunday Drive - Fix Your Thoughts

Sunday Drive - Fix Your Thoughts

Fix Your Thoughts

Each morning, during my devotions and prayer, I ask the Holy Spirit to help me to think like Jesus, love like Jesus, and be like Jesus. His ways and thoughts are so much more than I could ever imagine! I want my mind to be fully led by the Holy Spirit, not by my flesh.

Isaiah 55:9 (NLT)
9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

I want to think His thoughts. God's thoughts and ways are so contradictory from what this world promotes. The world wants you to put yourself first, for you to be the top priority. This way of thinking  seems to be thrown at us constantly. It's hard to think the way God does when we are bombarded from every direction.

Romans 8:6 (NLT)
6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

However, there is so much peace when we allow the Holy Spirit full reign in our minds. We allow too many things to clutter our minds. Ask The Lord to clear your mind of the clutter. Evict those things that are living there rent free.

Philippians 4:8 (NLT)
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Fixing your thoughts on Jesus requires concentration and discipline. We need to be purposeful in our thought life. Believe me, I know it's not easy...During my devotional/prayer time, I will be thinking of God's grace and mercy on my life and in the next second, I'm thinking about what I need to pull out of the freezer for dinner! Ugh! We are all on this journey. I need this reminder as much as anyone!

I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit, because He gives so much grace and mercy. He gently reminds me to bring my thoughts back to Jesus. Sometimes, randomly throughout my day, He will bring to mind the goodness of God or someone that needs prayer. This gives me the opportunity to think His thoughts again and again.

Hebrews 3:1 (NIV)
Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.

Thinking the thoughts of Jesus takes practice, patience and perseverance. We need to allow God to transform and change the way we think. We need to rest in the quietness of His peace.

He is faithful. He will bring scriptures to mind, or a song of praise. He helps draw our minds back to Jesus.

Maybe we need to turn off the TV or put down our phone more. Making more time for Jesus to fill us with His ways and His thoughts.

Romans 12:2 (NLT)
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Lord, renew my mind. Lead me by your scriptures. Help me to think Your thoughts and fix my mind on You.

Blessings,
Lori
