Peace vs Conflict

Romans 12:18 (NLT)
18 Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.

Yes and amen to that verse! If it is at all possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

At this time in our nation there is so much division. You know that's exactly what the enemy wants. He loves it. He wants to cause division in your family, in your workplace, with your neighbors, especially in your church.

However, we are called to a higher mandate. We are servants of the Most High. It is not about what we want. It's about what He calls us to and what He wants for us.

James 1:19 (NLT)
19 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

It is not always easy to be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry. We need to take time, slow down and listen. What we have to say isn't the most important thing.

Is it more important to prove your point or to live in peace? I'm not talking about being a doormat and letting people walk on you. However, some people can not 'hear', because they are not believers. It is most important to display Christ like behavior than getting your point across.

When you have a conflict with someone (notice I didn't say "if" you have a conflict, we will all have them from time to time), examine yourself, your motives, your reactions. Did you contribute to the problem? If so, quickly repent and do what you can to restore the relationship to a peaceful one. Sometimes, we can do all the right things and people will still be offended or angry with us.

Whether you were at fault or the other person, forgiveness needs to take place in order for restoration. You need to forgive them whether they reciprocate that forgiveness. You may also need to forgive yourself. It can be complicated at times. Just trust The Lord. The Holy Spirit will nudge you in the right direction. (Believe me, I'm speaking from experience...)

Romans 5:1 (NLT)
5 Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.

The important thing is to follow The Lord's leading. He will guide you through conflict as long as you are willing to follow and listen. I believe God wants us to live in peace. Who's going to lay down their weapon first? Lord, let it be me.

Matthew 5:9 (NLT)
9 God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.

Lord, help me live at peace with those all around me.

Blessings,
Lori
