I took this photo on a walk one evening... the sky is on fire!
New Year - New You
I've been hearing this phrase over and over right now. With the new year we tend to want a fresh start or a new beginning.
I love getting out my new planner for the year and filling it out and setting goals. Many people want to start working out and eating more healthy. I'll raise my hand there! I'm pretty good at working out, but my eating habits could use a bit of work.
What about your spiritual life? Have you considered setting any goals in that area? The Lord wants to transform us by renewing our minds.
Ephesians 4:22-24 (NLT)
22 throw off your old sinful nature and your
former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead,
let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new
nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
Being connected to Christ brings newness to our lives everyday not just at the beginning of the year.
That's the key, being connected every single day. I read something in my devotional the other day, that hit me... Many times we say that God is the most important thing in our lives. However, sometimes when life gets a little crazy and busy, our time with Him is the first thing that gets pushed aside. Ouch! I'm guilty.
We are all under construction. Even though I've been following Christ for 30+ years, I still have a ton of work that needs to be done. Lord, transform me!
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)
17 This means that anyone who belongs to
Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has
begun!
In this new year, I want to continue to 'throw off' that old me. To choose Christ first. Make Him my priority.
One way I plan on putting Him first, is to try and read (or listen) through the whole Bible this year. Want to join me? We're only a few days into the new year... you can catch up!
I actually just opened my Bible App and clicked Bible Plans. I chose a Chronological Bible Plan to listen to. It's pretty nice. The plan has all the scriptures picked out for each day. I just hit play and it will play all the scriptures for that day.
If you'd prefer a guide to put in your Bible. Proverbs 31 Girl Has a guide you can print up. It's also a Chronological Guide. The way the Bible is set up isn't actually chronological. I thought it would be interesting to read it this way. Here's a link to get your copy of the guide.
Chronological Bible Guide - Proverbs 31 Girl
I pray that The Word will penetrate my heart, soul and mind. To let God do the work that needs to be done in me... in all of us. His ways are perfect.
Romans 12:2 (NLT)
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this
world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you
think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and
pleasing and perfect.
So this new year isn't really about me... It's about choosing Him first.
Matthew 6:33 (NLT)
33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and
live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
Blessings,
Lori
