The new floors are in! Hubby took off a whole week and we dived into it!

We've had the flooring sitting in our home for over a year, so it was completely acclimated. This is the same flooring we used in our Master Bedroom Makeover

Lifeproof in Dusk Cherry from Home Depot. We love this color! It goes together pretty easily. It just takes time!

I'm sure I'll get asked and I know some people just won't understand our decision.... But yes we are going to put this flooring down over our orange oak wood floors. Here's the deal. This wood flooring isn't throughout the house. We have completely changed the floorplan and we want all the floors to be the same. So, that's what we are going to do. 💝

So, before you start installing a new floor, I want to tell you to find all of the squeaks in the floor before. Fix those squeaks! If you're like me those things will drive you nuts!! Fortunately, we were able to attack them from the top and basement. We put in tons of screws here and there to fix them.

Squeaks are from two boards rubbing each other or boards that were put down with nails and they move up and down with pressure. So, we did our best to fix them all.

Once we finished The Livingroom Repair, we pushed all the furniture to one side and began laying the flooring down in the living room. Then we'll work our way to the kitchen, hallway and guest room.

Do you see that tool in the bottom left corner? That is a LIFE saver! It made this process sooooo much faster and easier! Laminate Flooring Cutter

I'm so excited! Let's do this!

New floor living room

We didn't have too many hiccups. It's pretty straight forward. The only area we had some concerns was where the living room and kitchen connected. This is an old house, and we took down a wall between the two rooms, so the floor repair was interesting.

Interesting floor repair

It was difficult to find the exact width of wood for each space. But we made it work!

I wasn't looking forward to disconnecting our gas stove and moving the fridge, but it's all apart of the process.

Now we are ready to move into the hallway, guest room and laundry room. We are thrilled that we didn't have to do any transitions into the rooms that it is all seamless!

We had a hiccup in the laundry room completely unrelated to the flooring.... When we moved the washer and dryer out, we saw that the dryer vent had come away from the outside vent. We had re done it when we changed the floor plan of the laundry room. You can see the old hook ups under the window. (Which we haven't removed yet, because the laundry room isn't finished yet.) Soooo....

We decided to change where it vented to the outside. That meant renting a tool to drill into the brick. Fun... not!

This was a pain and wasn't on the agenda, but it needed to be fixed. We got it finished and moved on.

After all the floors and hallways were done, it was time for baseboards. We used standard primed 1x4 boards. We pre-painted them before we installed. That saves a TON of time. Who wants to sit on the floor for hours painting baseboards? This way, we just had to touch up where the nails were and the top after caulking. 👍

And they're done! We are thrilled to have new floors and thrilled that it is done! It changes the whole look of the house! Love, love, love!

I love this super long runner we got to go the length of the hallway all the way into our bedroom.

And lastly, I treated myself to a robot vacuum and mop! So much easier to keep these floors clean!! I purchased a Eufy X10 Pro Omni. It is amazing! I love that it also mops. It's super easy to use.

That's it folks! Our floors are complete... oh.... no they aren't... We have the guest bathroom. Waaayyy back when we remodeled the guest bath, we chose a flooring we thought we would like. Well, we don't like it and it needs to be changed to this. That's fine, we're planning on getting it done soon!

Blessings,
Lori
