An Attitude of Gratitude
How often do we linger in an attitude of gratitude? Many times we say we are thankful and then move on. Are we truly thankful? Are we just saying what's expected of us? Is our thankfulness genuine?
I like to list the things I'm thankful for in my journal. I've been journaling for as long as I can remember and I really enjoy it. Writing down what I am thankful for helps me remember how God is always there for me. I'm able to write down prayer requests and then record how God answers them. Which also makes me more thankful!
My journal continually reminds me of His faithfulness. I know He sees me, knows me, hears me, loves me and takes care of me. THANK You, Lord!!
Psalms 95:2 (NLT)
2 Let us come to him with thanksgiving.
Let us sing psalms of praise to him.
It's also important to remember the marvelous gift of forgiveness. In our Christian walk, we can at times take it for granted. It's important to realize the pain and sorrow Christ went through taking on all of man's sin at once and being separated from His Father God. I feel like sometimes we don't understand the gravity of what He went through, and quite possibly we will never understand. But I am forever grateful!
1 Corinthians 15:57 (NLT)
57 But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:1-2 (NLT)
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
Taking time to thank God awakens your heart, drawing you to His Presence.
Life can become blurry sometimes making you feel distant or out of touch with God. When we make the effort to thank Him for something... anything, it's like the fog clearing and we can see that He was always there close by we just couldn't see Him. Remember, you are never alone.
Psalms 16:8 (NLT)
8 I know the Lord is always with me.
I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
I like to think that thankfulness and trust are like life long friends. They go hand in hand. It's hard not to have one without the other. You can count on these friends to pull you through when things look bleak.
Psalms 92:1-2 (NLT)
1 It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High. 2 It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening.
When you start thanking The Lord for the little things like, the beauty of life, breath in your lungs, the color of the leaves falling, amazing sunsets and sunrises, food on your table, family, friends, etc... the list goes on. It takes your thoughts to something beyond yourself and then you realize you are lingering in gratitude.
This elevates you to an attitude of gratitude.
Blessings,
Lori
