Sunday Drive - Speak His Word Aloud

Sunday Drive - Speak His Word Aloud

I can't believe roses are still blooming in the middle of November... I walk by this beautiful yard every week.
I love seeing what's in bloom!

Speak His Word Aloud

Do you realize how powerful your words are? Words come from the all the thoughts we store in our mind. We don't necessarily say every word that pops in there and that's probably a good thing!

Proverbs 18:20-21 (NLT)
20 Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction. 21 The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

Here's Lori's version of that verse... The words that I say can destroy or build up and give life. I also believe that the same holds true to the thoughts in our mind.

The words we speak have incredible power over how we live, think and feel. So, if we think a negative thought, and then we speak it out, we've just heard it twice in our mind. It is reinforcing that negative thought.

What if you think a negative thought, and the Holy Spirit points out that negative thought, and He gives you a snippet of a verse to combat that negative thought... Speak it out loud! Even if it's a whisper.  If you don't know the whole thing, look it up! The Lord is helping you in the moment. You've now just reinforced the power of life in your mind with the Word of God.

Ephesians 4:29 (NLT)
29 Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

Learning to be mindful of your words is not an easy thing to do. I struggle with that myself. I am always asking the Holy Spirit for help! I want my words to be an encouragement not only to myself but to those around me. I'm sure we all remember this saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Are the words we say helpful, encouraging, thoughtful or kind? Sometimes, it might be best to say nothing at all.

Spending time in the Word of God helps our thoughts align with God. I find starting my day reading the Bible sets my day on the right track. I feel like my mind and thoughts are refreshed, especially when I read the Bible out loud.

Have you ever tried reading your Bible out loud? When I do, I find it helps me stay focused. Plus, I'm not only reading it, but I'm hearing the word as well. I believe that when I speak the Word out loud, I am filling my mind and my home with the power of God. I am making declarations of peace, joy, love, unity, comfort, etc.... I want my home filled with the Holy Spirit.

I also like to pray out loud. Praying out loud builds my faith. I believe it sets my prayers into motion.

When we fill our mind with the Word of God, we will be able to recognize the lies and deceptions of this world. Then we destroy those lies with God's truth.

Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)
12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

This is where the Holy Spirit works in us, so that we are growing fruits of the Spirit in our lives.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control.

This is a valuable verse to memorize. As this fruit is growing in us, it is filling our minds with the life and power of God.

As I've said before, this life is a journey. There are ups and downs. Sometimes we say the right things, and sometimes we don't. But we don't give up. We keep trying. We keep believing. We keep asking the Lord to help us become more like Him.

Philippians 5:13 (NLT)
13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Yes, Lord! Amen!

Blessings,
Lori
