Sunday Drive - Self Forgetfulness

This world teaches that you are number one! You deserve what you want. That this life is all about you.

However, being a Christ follower, requires that you think the exact opposite. We were not designed to stay focused on ourselves. We were designed to worship and live for God, not ourselves.

We need to learn the art of self forgetfulness. 

In doing this, we will increase our awareness of God's Presence.

The natural bent of all mankind it to be self absorbed, to be self- centered. This started in the garden with Adam and Eve. But the second we asked Christ into our lives, He empowered us to live supernaturally!

Genesis 3:6-7 (NLT)
6 The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.

We have the Holy Spirit, to help us! The Holy Spirit can free us from being self-centered if we ask Him.

John 15:26 (NKJV)
26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

Romans 8:9 (NLT)
9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)

When we focus on Jesus instead of ourselves, we will find so much more peace. We can easily get caught in the trap of worrying about what others think of us. What others think does not matter at all! 

Ask the Holy Spirit, to have the eyes of Jesus. To see beyond ourselves and see what He sees. To be less focused on our needs, but to the needs of others. 

When we turn to Jesus and the Holy Spirit, we are complete. We are living in His Presence. He is our refuge. We are in His everlasting arms. 

Deuteronomy 33:27 (NLT)
The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you. He drives out the enemy before you; he cries out, ‘Destroy them!’

This is where it is all about Him and less about us. This is where we put Him first. The more time we spend in His presence, the less time we will focus on us and what we want. We will want more of what He wants.
