Sunday Drive - To Abide In Him

Sunday Drive - To Abide In Him

(Photo taken on my walk the other day)

Sometimes I use a word and I assume I know the meaning of it. Then I take the time to look it up and the meaning is even deeper than you initially thought. For instance, the word - Abide.

I assumed it meant to go along with, and it does, but so much more...

Here are some definitions of abide:

  • To wait for - (I will abide the coming of my Lord.)
  • To accept without objection - (I will abide your decision.)
  • to remain stable or in a fixed state - (My love abides for Him all my days.)
  • to continue in a place - (I will abide in the house of The Lord.)

Abide is also a choice, I make. It's not something that comes naturally, like breathing or blinking. We can choose to "remain stable" in the Lord. We can choose to "accept without objection" His ways.

Life can be a struggle at times and in different seasons, but we can choose to abide in Him.

John 15:4 (NKJV)
4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

I choose to remain stable in The Lord, to continue to stay fixed on Him. He is all that I need in this world.

Psalm 28:7 (NLT)
The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

When we realize all the benefits of abiding in Christ, we live a life of freedom. He is our strength, we don't have to be strong. He is our shield, we don't have to worry about being attacked. He will help us, when we need Him, so much so that our hearts are filled with joy!

That is where my heart has been lately! Filled with joy! The fullness of my joy is coming from a heart of thankfulness. Thankful for my Savior, and the gift of salvation. Thankful for the peace He gives me. Thankful for the life of my new grandson, thankful for my husband, thankful for our little brick house, thankful for my health, thankful for this wonderful life I get to live.

Now, I realize that some of you may be in a season of struggle and might not be feeling those things right now. Yet, there is something you can thank Him for.

The foundation of all my thankfulness is coming from my solid foundation in Christ, because I choose to abide in Him. Nothing I have is anything without Him. Nothing.

I don't know what the future holds for my life. I don't know where seasons of struggle will happen. During the good and hard, I want to abide in Him. He is my hope, everything I need.

1 John 2:24(NKJV)
24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.

Today you can chose to abide in Him.

Blessings,
Lori
