Freedom through surrender sounds like an oxymoron. It sounds like a contradiction, right? But it's not, not when you're talking about surrendering to the Holy Spirit.
The more we surrender to the Holy Spirit, the more we become like Christ and who He created us to be.
I try to pray everyday, that the Holy Spirit would think through me, live through me and love through me. This is a prayer of surrender. I don't want to be in control, I want God in control. He sees all and knows all that is best for me.
Romans 8:6 (NLT)
6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
And even through I pray that prayer as much as I can, I still fight my tendencies to be in control. I end up sabotaging myself! Ugh! Lord, help me!
2 Corinthians 3:16-17 (NLT)
16 But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Kingdom living includes the wonderful freedom through surrendering and yielding to His perfect will. Trusting in God even though you don't understand and can't see what He's doing. Sometimes it just doesn't make sense. But again remember that He is infinite, God doesn't start and He never ends. He is the Alpha and the Omega, beginning and the end.
Isaiah 44:6 (NIV)
“This is what the Lord says— Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.
He is pleased when we ask Him to help us to be like Him. The more we work to surrender to The Lord, the more free we are! We can think freer, live freer and love freer!
Psalm 119:45(NLT)
I will walk in freedom,
for I have devoted myself to your commandments.
Blessings,
Lori
