Why do I make prayer hard? I make it so much harder than it ever needs to be.
Isn't it just chatting with my best friend? The word "pray or prayer" seems to be a 'christianese' word we use to sound like we are doing something religious or godly.
If we are Christ followers, we are friends of God, so it's really just talking with your friend.
James 2:23(NLT)
And so it happened just as the Scriptures say:
“Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his
faith.” He was even called the friend of God.
Chatting with God is sharing our life with Him, telling Him our struggles, our concerns, things we are happy about.
God wants to be close to us. Think about this...
He has all the time in the world. He's never too busy for us. He never feels rushed. With all the billions of people in the world, He just wants to spend time with me.
In the Bible it says, God was walking in the garden...
Genesis 3:8(NIV)
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the
Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they
hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God
called to the man, “Where are you?”
They heard God walking in the garden... How would they know it was Him, unless they heard it before. We know that they hid because they had sinned, but if they hadn't sinned, wouldn't they have found God and chatted with them? I think they would have. I also think that it probably wasn't a one time thing. That they spent time with Him on a regular basis, going on walks and enjoying each other's company.
In my devotions, I'm reading in Exodus and I'm at the part where Moses spends time on the mountain with God. According to scripture, he didn't go there just once. I counted 3 times. Exodus 19:20, 25:12, 34:2.
I can't even imagine what it might have been like to be in the physical presence of God Almighty! Yet, I know that He's with me all the time every single day.
I've also read where it says that he went into the Tent of Meeting to meet with God.
Exodus 33:11(NLT)
Inside the Tent of Meeting, the Lord would speak
to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.
Can you imagine? The Lord would speak to Moses face to face!
Exodus 34:34(NLT)
But whenever he went into the Tent of Meeting to
speak with the Lord, he would remove the veil until he came out again.
Then he would give the people whatever instructions the Lord had given
him...
Do you see the word 'whenever'? To me that means it happened more than once, that it was perhaps a regular thing...
What all this says to me, is that God wants to spend time with us. He wants us to get to know Him. He wants us, to want to spend time with Him. He wants to be our best friend. I want to be a friend of God. Let's look at our time with God differently.
Let's have a great chat with our best friend every day!
