I still can not wrap my head around how amazing God is!
If you've followed me for any length of time, you most likely have seen me post about the rental properties we've owned with my brother and sister in-law for the last 9 years. Well.... not any more!
We SOLD them! I can NOT contain the happy dance I am dancing right now!!!💃💃
The apartments we owned had been weighing on us for sometime now. Hubs and I were tired. A lot of our weekends were filled with some sort of repair or project there. I dealt with calls of all sorts... neighbor disputes, smoke alarms, plumbing problems, snow removal.... the list could go on and on....
Yet...The knowledge we gained from owning them has been priceless! We have learned sooooo much, which has given us incredible confidence to tackle more than a few projects around the house! But lets be honest.... we are not getting any younger and putting in flooring, and all the 'other things' has taken it's toll on our bodies. We are ready for a break! Plus a HUGE reason for wanting to sell them is that both of our kiddos live out of state, and we simply want to see them more! 💗
It was important to us that we offered nice and clean apartments to our tenants, and we did our best to do that. It was also important for us be trustworthy and honorable landlords. We were proud of the work we accomplished. These apartments were in pretty bad shape when we purchased them, we really have done a lot in the last 9 years!! (And when I say "we" in doing all the work and things, I'm including my brother and sister-in-law. We ALL put in countless hours there!)
Here are a few posts I did on them! This one is from 2012!
Finally Finished!
This is another renovation we began in 2013. They were in pretty rough shape, right??
Apartment Renovations Begin!
Apartment Renovation Complete!
That renovation was amazing! You should check it out, the kitchen was TERRIBLE! The after is pretty awesome, if I do say so myself... 😊
A few years ago we thought we tried putting them on the market.... That was disheartening.... We had a couple of offers that were lower than what we paid for them. Needless to say, we took them off the market.
During the last few of years, we renovated the entry areas, completing them this summer. They look so much better now. Here, see for yourself! Here's the before....
Entry Renovations
Here's the 'after'... I just never got around to sharing them. These are not the greatest photos, but you'll get the idea... (we did finish the floors and baseboards, just couldn't find a photo.)
Here's a before and after of the stairs and flooring...
This doesn't have the baseboards on, but it's already a HUGE difference!
So fast forward to today.... we decided to try and sell them again and lo and behold... They sold in ONE day!!! What??? There was a bit of a bidding 'war' and we received full asking price! Crazy, right??!! Whoo Hoo!!! Quite the contrast from the last time we had them on the market. We had settlement this week. 🙌
We are so incredibly thankful! Like I said, I am still desperately trying to wrap my head around all of this. It's been a whirlwind getting everything finished before settlement... completing the entries (we finished putting in the baseboards), making sure minor things were repaired, cleaning out our supplies and such, and getting all kinds of paperwork in order.
Now, I can take a HUGE breath and EXHALE... We are done.
That photo at the beginning of my post, of a beautiful sunrise.... (btw, I took that photo in 2015 on the coast of Myrtle beach.) This beautiful sunrise reminds me of two things. One, God's perfect timing and control on all of life. Two, it reminds me how change happens, seasons change, weather change... the tides come in and then go out. This is a BIG change for me. I worked my little tail (well, it's not so little) off at those apartments. Many hours were spent managing, cleaning, painting, etc... Now, I'm not complaining... well, maybe a little. 😜 But now I have freedom, like I haven't had in a long time, and I'm so excited about all the things I have brewing in my mind!
I've been asked, "So, what are you going to do with all of your time? Aren't you going to get bored?" Oh, there is soooo much that I've wanted to do, but never enough hours in the day. I've been a stay at home mom/wife for over 20 years, and I've never (honestly, I can say never) had a day where I was 'bored'.
I would love to work on this lil ol' blog a LOT more, organize and purge my entire house (which is a constant struggle of mine!) and sooo much more! Don't worry about me, I definitely know how to fill my day to overflowing! Just ask hubby! 😉
Blessings!!
