Today I'm sharing my new table top finish. It is amazing! Everyone needs to know that this is
The BEST Topcoat EVER!!!
Do you remember when I did a complete makeover on my dining table? If not you can check it out, New Project! Dining Table Makeover.
Here you can see the before and it definitely looks sooo much better now! Hindsight being 20/20, I should have done a bit more research on the topcoat. I used Minwax Polycrylic, which has a tendency to yellow over time.
Let me emphasize that this is NOT a sponsored post. No one has given me any product or paid me to share my opinion. Although, I am including an affiliate link because you can only order this product online.
It been 3 years since I refinished it, and I still love it! It looks soooo nice! Especially, after I refinished the Dining Chairs. 😍 Be still my heart.... I'm get all kinds of good feels with this photo. Wow! I can't believe it's been 3 years already.
The reason why I'm refinishing the table top is because of this.... ugly dirtiness... I'm not sure the photo shows it well enough. But this cannot be scrubbed off. 😖
Over the years, some of the Minwax Polycrylic has "worn off" so to speak... especially where hubby rests his arms. It also always had this "orange peel" look to it. Here's a nice closeup....
Plus, it has started to yellow a bit. I thought that was the best product out there...
I was sooo wrong!
So, I decided it needed to be re-coated or something. I heard that General Finishes had an an amazing top coat. Hmmm.... I've used General Finishes before when I stained our Garage Cabinets. I was pretty amazed with that product, maybe this would be just as amazing.
I ordered a can of from Amazon. Here's the link, General Finishes High Performance. It's not cheap, but definitely worth it!
I watched the General Finishes topcoat video on Youtube. I linked it if you want to check it out. It was pretty informative. They suggested you use a painting pad to apply the topcoat. Where have you been all my life?? If I had known that it would be this easy, I would have done it sooner!
Now, you're probably wondering... what's with the pantyhose? Well, that's what they suggested to minimize bubbles. Genius! You just wrap it over the paint pad. I picked up the paint pad at Home Depot.
Now the time consuming part is the sanding... and sanding... and more sanding... well, why don't you just watch the video... In 3 minutes you can see all that I did to refinish the table. 😊
The table is now as smooth as butter... I walk over to it and run my hand across it, just to feel it. Hubby laughs at me. 😂😂😍 I love how it feels. I just can't believe it! I did 3 coats and it looks as good as it feels!
Love. Love. Love!!! I can't say it enough! I never thought it would look or feel so good!
You're welcome! 😊
Blessings!!

I had the same problem with polycrylic, Lori. I now use polyurethane, but it's nice to know there's another option, especially for 'light' finishes!

Oh! Thank God, I'm not the only one! :) I had considered polyurethane, but have seen it turn pretty white tables and cabinets into a yellowy hue... Hopefully this will stand the test of time! Thanks for stopping by! :)
