This floral letter is sooo gorgeous! I mean it came out perfect! I know, I'm bragging a bit, but look at it!! I'm swooning....💕I hit Hobby Lobby when their flowers were on sale for 50% off! A lot of these flowers are for my daughter's wedding, but I planned on using some for her bridal shower.
My cart's pretty full, right??!! 😊
Okay, let me show you how I made this
Simple Inexpensive Floral Letter
All the DIY's I checked out used a wood or chipboard letter as their base. Well, I really didn't want to spend a lot of $$ here. I knew there had to be a cheaper way! I used a cardboard box! Yep, cardboard!
Which actually works out well, if you want to hang it on the wall, it will be nice and light.
I used a basic letter template. I didn't want anything fancy. So, I drew it out on paper and cut it out.
Then I traced it onto the cardboard. Now cardboard usually has a "bend/grain" to it. So what I did was I traced it one way and cut it out then traced another one turning against the "bend" and cut that out. I placed arrows on this picture just to point out the direction of the "bend/grain".
Putting the two together should prevent the cardboard from bending and give a sturdy base for the flowers. I glued them together with a glue stick.
I didn't want my letter brown, so I covered it with white paper. You could also probably spray paint it.
Now comes the fun part!!
I cut the stems off of the flowers, all except the daisies. They were already a pretty flat flower.
This is just a random placement. I couldn't wait to see what it was going to look like. There's a 'B' in there somewhere. 😉
Time to get to work! I plugged in my glue gun.
I started with some greens. I wasn't sure how this was going to work, or what was really going to show, but it seemed like a good place to start. I can always add more later.
I strategically placed some flowers that were the same, because it makes your eye "draw" a line to form the letter.
I just kept placing and glueing flowers all around. Keeping in mind the shape of the letter. Tiny flowers were perfect in filling in small spots here and there.
Another tip is you need to cut each flower down to the base, where it is almost flat. Now, some flowers like the daisies didn't have much depth to them. They were an already flat flower, so I left a bit of the stem and glued that really well.
While I was making this, my husband texted my daughter and told here that I was making little happy "noises"...😂 apparently I was enjoying myself! 💕
I was so happy with this little creation! Here's where we placed it at my daughter's shower.
I feel like this is something she can use at the wedding or in her home later.
You may want to Pin It for later!😊

I love how you told the story lol but I’m excited to try to make a J out of this for my wedding in 2 months.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Hoping you have a beautiful day! Thanks for reading! :)
DeleteHello from Toronto, Canada. This is beautiful. I really suck in art, but it's so beautiful that I want to attempt to make one for my daughter's birthday party. She's turning 3 in a few weeks. My worry is how well the base of the flowers will stick to the cardboard. Did you glue the petals directly on the cardboard? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi! Yes! I glued each flower to the cardboard base. My daughter's 'B' has held up perfect! Good luck!
DeleteI love this idea, are they real flowers or fake ones? I’m guessing fake?
ReplyDeleteLove this idea ans so simple! Are these fake or real flowers?
ReplyDeleteDo you think using glass beads from the dollar store will also work? I'm not a flower type of girl...
ReplyDeleteI don't see why not! you just need to make sure that the cardboard is sturdy enough to hold the weight of the glass beads. Thanks for stopping by!!
DeleteHi! This is beautiful. I plan on using this as my template! Just curious, how big was your "B"?
ReplyDeleteHi! It was approximately 18inches or so.... It came out so pretty!! She even used it for her wedding day!
DeleteThis is beautiful! Im gonna make that for my daughter's 3 yrs old party decors. I'm wonder if I want to hang on a wall, is there a tip how to hang it?
ReplyDeleteHi Kate! Oh, that sounds so pretty! Maybe a loop of fishing line would work. Or just poking a hold in the cardboard back and hooking it on a nail. Or using a thumbtack to tack it to the wall. Hope it all works out! Blessings!
DeleteI'd love to try this for my daughter's bridal shower in a couple of weeks. With COVID, we have been forced to do things a little differently which, for us, will include a gift/card drop-off followed by a virtual shower. Our house and yard will be decorated for the shower, this would be perfect to hang on the front door! Thank you
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are making the best of the situation. Your yard will be beautiful! Oh, I'd love to see how your letter turns out!!
DeleteI am curious about what initial to use for a bridal shower. Should it be the bride-to-be first name? or the soon to be last name?
ReplyDeleteGreat question! We chose to use the soon to be last name! That's why we're celebrating! Thanks for stopping by!
