First, let me tell you... This post is not a tutorial. But... We are finally offering a template and complete directions in the form of an ebook!

We had so much fun..
I could NOT have done this at all with out Hubs! He is the brains of this project. He has incredible talent and math skills that I simply do NOT have the patience for. I might have written the ebook, but he definitely did the harder part!
This was labor intensive. It took a couple of months from start to finish for us, because Hubby works so many hours.... But if you buy our ebook, then you can breeze right through this, because we did the work for you!!
This is a huge piece of cardboard that he copied this grid onto, which served as a pattern to draw out the figure onto a 4X8 ft. sheet of plywood.
Then he cut it out. He did this all for me! 😍
We love working as a team! We cut out all of the pieces, painted and put them together!
Here we set up the nativity scene to see if it was even going to work. And it does!! Yay! I love how big it is!
We carried it out to the yard and set a spot light on it. We love it! One year we'd love to add some sheep or angels.
It turned out so great! Thank you, sweet Hubby, for all your hard work! 😘

Building An Outdoor Nativity
Hubby and I have always wanted one of those outdoor Nativity manger scenes. They look so nice in the yard during the Christmas season. We found some for sale, but they were kind of expensive and really small.So, since we are DIY'ers we decided to make one ourselves!

This is so gorgeous. I would love to have this pattern to make one for our church. I am in charge of decorating our church and have been looking for a simple outdoor nativity scene for some time now and I can not seem to find one that I like. This is perfect.

This is something I have been trying to get a pattern for for years, our church is the hub of the village how marvellous would it be for the children & adults to see this nativity scene.
Could I ask you to consider letting me have or purchase the pattern.

I would love a template too... Would it be something that could be copied somehow with an industrial photocopier or something like that?

Instead of a cardboard template, you could use a projector. Scan a small drawing and transfer it to the wood using a projector.
DeleteSure, you could. But not everyone has access to a projector. Most of us have a printer. :)

ReplyDeleteOh Gosh! I think Hubby kind of combined two pics we pulled from Pinterest....I'm going to have to hunt around and see if we saved the drawings...
DeleteThere is a company that sells them (quite pricey, by the way). Farm-Marm, you could probably google it to get a picture to use as a guide.

ReplyDeleteHi Leeann! We had the same problem at first. Then we purchased some of the metal fencing stakes and pounded 2 of them into the ground behind Mary and Joseph and at the front corners after we placed the nativity in our yard. Then screwed them into the nativity. We've never had a problem since. 👍
DeleteI love this pattern. I’ve been trying to read past comments. I’m looking for a pattern to purchase so I can trace them onto plywood to cut out as I am not a drawer and can not freehand them on that large of scale. Do you have patterns to purchase yet? Thanks

DeleteMost of the wood we had was scrap. So, it's hard to calculate. I would expect the cost would run at least $50-$75 depending if you had any scrap wood, and how much wood runs in your area.
Can you post a materials list? It looks like 1 sheet of plywood plus 1x4's and some hardware??
