(My) Fashion Over 40 ~ Today's Culture and The Church

Well, the days of summer are almost gone....  I have this need to wear as many bright colors as possible! So here is another colorful outfit.

Bright colors just make me feel happy! I am soooo not ready for fall to come this year. Seriously, I have no desire to decorate for fall or for it to get cold?  I don't know what the deal is.  I usually love this time of year.

I also, just had this pointed out to me by my precious Hubby... Uhhhh.... My birthday is in the fall. I just realized I'll be turning ((((49)))))).  It doesn't really bother me.  I completely wholeheartedly believe my wonderful great-aunt's words of wisdom that, "Age is between the ears"! But I have to say, that 49 sounds A LOT older than 48.  Just sayin....  That being said, I feel great!  I'm in the best health/shape of my life!  I feel better than I did in my early thirties! So, bring it on 49!!!

Ok, back to the outfit.... Camisole, I've worn before under sheer type of shirts.  It's from JCP with the matching cardigan. (Which I must replace. It's starting to show it's wear and it's too big.)

The skirt I picked up at a thrift store for a couple of bucks.  The shoes are one of my favorites that I've had for years.  They are Bandolino's I picked up at Ross for less than $20.  LOVE a good deal!

What do you think about Today's Culture and The Church?  It's seems more and more that the culture is affecting the church and we (the church) are adapting and changing to be like it.  Is that what Jesus wanted?  I don't think that was the plan.  Our Pastor was talking about this on Sunday.

The Church used to affect the culture.  There was prayer and Bible reading in school. The Ten Commandments could be posted just about anywhere. Now, none of that is acceptable.  Now, a student can get suspended for saying "Bless you".  Yes, that happened here in the good ole USA. You can read about it HERE.

This used to be a Christian nation.  I don't believe it is anymore.  The moral standards of this nation are hitting rock bottom.  I believe The Church should set the standard, not the other way around.  By The Church, I mean the followers of Christ, the ones that live their lives to serve and please the One and Only God Almighty. (There just seems to be a lot of people out there that call themselves Christians, but don't really live like they are.)

We don't need to go back to the legalistic ways.  I remember those days... The list of the things you couldn't do was longer than the list of things you could do.  My sweet Grandma was an old time Pentecostal believer.  She unfortunately would tell me that I was going to hell, for practically everything I did.  She eventually saw that was a legalistic and controlling way of life. Christ never intended us to live like that, in constant fear of going to hell.  But now, we've swung so far the other way.  There doesn't seem to be a fear of anything, we can live any ole way we please. Again, I don't believe that was Jesus' plan. Let's come back to some middle ground.  We need to have a holy fear of the Creator of the universe, and we can have freedom in Christ.  We need both, we need to live in balance.

This verse states what's really important.
Matthew 22: 36-39

36 Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’  38 This is the first and greatest commandment.  39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Loving God first and foremost. Everything else will fall into place if we keep our eyes on Him. I think we make it too hard.  Then, loving people (neighbors).  Showing them the love of Christ. That's what people want... just to be loved.
