(My) Fashion Over 40 ~ Ruling Our Own Spirit

Have you ever let your hubby pick out your clothes? Usually I'm picking out his clothes.
Have you ever experienced this dialogue?

Hubs: Hey, Hon, what do you want me to wear?
Me: Oh, I don't care.

Hubs: (Comes out and shows me) How's this?
Me: Ummm... nah. Let's pick something else out.
Hubs: I thought you didn't care....

Please tell me this sounds familiar! Anyway, I thought it would be fun to see what he would pick out for me.  I made it easy, he only had to pick out a shirt.  I had him pick out 3. I tried them on to see how they worked. One was too dark, one hit me on the widest part of my hips and one was just right.  I should have taken pictures of each one so you could see what I mean. Next time....

Here's the winner.

My Fashion Over 40

I asked Hubby to take this pic "real quick".  He was plating breakfast and we were running late...

This isn't a new outfit.  I wore this when we were visiting my daughter on Father's Day.

My Fashion Over 40

Ugh... Miss her so much!
The only difference between the two.... Black cami and black sandals. And definitely better lighting outside! I've also worn this top with white capris. I really love this top. The color and pattern, plus it's really lightweight. Hubby did good!

We had a special speaker that has been at our church several times. He spoke on a few different topics, but the one that I identified with the most was about Ruling Our Own Spirit.

Internal Dialogue - Talking to yourself in your head. Well, I talk myself all the time, and not just in my head, just ask my Hubby.  He's always asking who I'm talking to.... Anyway, He explained that we probably speak 800-1500 words per min to ourselves internally.  Hmmm.... I'm probably pretty close to the 1500 mark if not more.

But here's the key.  Do we say whatever we want to ourselves? A good word picture he gave was that if we don't manage our internal dialogue we would be like the tail on a kite being whipped all over the place with no direction or control.

Managing your internal dialogue.  Think about that.  Here is the scripture he referenced.

Proverbs 25: 28 (NKJV)
Whoever has no rule over his own spirit.  Is like a city broken down, without walls.

A broken down city without walls is vulnerable and exposed, open for attack. I need to govern and manage my internal dialogue.  You can tear yourself apart, justify offenses, think prideful thoughts; that you're better than others. Are you allowing the enemy free reign in your mind?

Proverbs 18:20-21 (NLT)
Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction.
The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

We can chose to speak good things to ourselves.  Life not death. Think better of yourself, encourage yourself, think better of others, and know when you need to improve yourself, and stop poor behavior.

Ruling our our own spirit will also help us grow in our relationships with our spouses, family members, friendships.

This is my prayer.
Romans 12:2 (NLT)
(That I) Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but (I)let God transform (me)you into a new person by changing the way (I)you think. Then (I)you will learn to know God's will for (myself)you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Blessings,
