Hello!
Happy Memorial Day!
We honor this day and remember all of those that have sacrificed and gave of their lives in service to our country.
Thank you for my freedom.
Thank you for your service to our great nation.
This week's (My) Fashion Over 40 is pretty casual.
Can I tell you it is sooo awkward to take photos of yourself. I've got the camera on a tripod with my little remote in my hand, and I'm trying to hide it. Haha!
I just have to laugh at some of my expressions!
Anyway...
Jeans... I love wearing jeans.
I think they are my absolute favorite.
(I'm sure I've told you this before...)
Plus they go with everything!
I picked up that shirt at JCP. I seem to keep going there.
Well, they keep sending me those awesome little coupons $10 off of $10. :)
The sweater and cami I got a couple of years ago at JCP.
I bought the shoes to go with the shirt, I didn't have anything to match. I found them at Payless. After wearing them most of the day yesterday, I was surprised at how comfortable they were! I might just have to go get another pair in a different color!
Every Memorial Day weekend, we pretty much have the same speaker. He's been coming to our church for the last 20+ years.
His name is Nick The Greek.
He runs Inside Out Ministries.
He has quite a testimony. He was a pretty bad character that God rescued while he was in prison.
You can read his testimony in his book called,
Now he travels all over the United States speaking in prisons, schools and churches reaching people for Christ.
He always has said,
"Show me your friends and I'll tell you who you are."
That is so true.
He spoke on, Joseph of Arimathea, and the qualities of this Christian man.
All four gospels mention him and just a bit differently.
As evening approached, Joseph, a rich man from Arimathea who had become a follower of Jesus...
Mattew 27:57 (NLT)
It seems that he was a rich man and a follower.
Why do people seem to look down at people that are rich? Jealousy maybe? Having wealth can be used to God's glory too.
Joseph did purchase the tomb that Jesus was buried in.
(even if He was only there for 3 days)
We need to be generous.
And we need to be content with whatever we have.
Hubby and I pretty much had nothing when we first got married. Neither of us had a college degree or a career. But we were happy and blessed. And today, we have more, but we are still happy and blessed. And we've actually talked about if it was all gone. We would probably struggle at first, but we would remember that was how we started out and we would still be happy and blessed.
This is how Mark describes Joseph.
Joeph of Arimathea took a risk and went to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body. (Joseph was an honored member of the high council, and he was waiting for the Kingdom of God to come.) Mark 15:43(NLT
He was an honored member. He must have been doing a good job and was respected in the community.
Luke described him as a good and just man.
Now there was a good and righteous man named Joseph. He was a member of the Jewish high council, but he had not agreed with the decisions and actions of the other religious leaders. He was from the town of Arimathea in Judea...Luke 23:50-51(NKJV)
He was dependable, you could trust and rely on him.
It seems people knew he didn't agree with what the other leaders were doing.
Afterward Joseph of Arimathea, who had been a secret disciple of Jesus (because he feared the Jewish leaders), asked Pilate for permission to take down Jesus' body....John 19:38 (NLT)
John says he was a secret disciple. I don't think it was a secret anymore after he asked for Jesus' body.
I don't want to live as a secret disciple of Christ.
It talks about if we don't shout the praises of God,
the very rocks will cry out!
Lord, let us tell everyone how great You are!
Here are a few good qualities a Christian should have:
1. Be generous
2. Be honorable
3. Be dependable and trustworthy
4. Tell what wonderful things Christ has done for you
Be Blessed!
