Stenciling The Back of My Hutch

I thought this would be a quick project. HA!  I’ve been “pouncing” for DAYS!!!
Pouncing is a word, by the way…
My right bicep and forearm are definitely more defined!
The art of pouncing is quite interesting.
You need to have a lot of bounce in your pounce.
This was way more work that I thought.
Maybe a bigger stencil next time. Yep, definitely.
BUT!!!! I LOVE the way it came out.  It brightens up the whole hutch and office!
This first pic I had to rummage around for, because apparently I forgot to take a before picture.
This was also before we moved things around.

So, first things first, I had to take off the backing.
Nice mess, right?
I was thrilled that it was just screwed on the back.
There were only about a bajillion little screws.
But it was also nice it was in 2 separate pieces.
Now the fun part.

I got out my trusty Martha stencils, which I have used a bunch of times! Love them!
On the back I tried a few different ones to see which one I liked the most.
Quatrefoil won out!  It is my favorite :)
So, some tape, paint roller, and paint.
I tried the acrylic paint, but it was really thin and I didn’t think there would be enough.
I rummaged around for some white paint and found the can that I used to paint my
Perfect!
So, I tried rolling on the paint… ehh. Didn’t like that.
Tried using a paint brush…. not working.
Remember I’m cheap, I’m not going to go out and buy a “pouncing stencil brush”.
Got it!! I used the foam roller, but used the end of it and just pounced and bounced it.
It worked perfectly :)
Now, I took it in sections, messed up a bit, smeared paint, got screwed up with the stencil, but all in all, I think it came out great.
As hubby told me, “The imperfections make it unique”.
I think he was just kissing up… :P (Just kidding, Honey!)
Don't look too close, you'll see some of the "uniqueness".
So, after 3 days of this pouncing thing, hubby helped me put them back up.
Then I screwed back in the bajillion little screws, and Wa La!
You love it, right??
I know… you’re jealous…
I love it, too!!!
I had this white metal white board from Ikea floating around the mess of a garage and thought that would look better than the silver one I had up before.
Then a light bulb went off and I painted a “frame” of orange around it.  Genius! Loving even MORE!!
I don’t know if you have those magnet framie things I used on the metal board, but you can paint those!  I painted them yellow, for a little more pop of color.  That's a pic of hubby and I when we were practically babies...
Here's  a few more pics...
That's a pic of my babies when they were so young!!

Here's a quick before and after...

My office it coming along!
Thank you so much for stopping by to read.
Next, I’m working on pillows for the bench.
So, what do you all think?  Was it worth the 3 days and a sore arm?

If you like it PIN it!

  2. I just want you to know...of course when one first reads a blog, you peruse the photos first and then go back and read it right? (or am I the only one who does that?) I didn't see any "imperfections" even on the second go round with a closer look and am completely impressed with your stencilling! It's beautiful! xo
