This is what happens to me…. I can look at a mess for
months! It never really bothers me. Then one day…. Bada Bing! I can’t take another day of looking at
it. I MUST take care of that ASAP! What is that?
Weird, huh?
So, here we go with another one of those projects that is
totally not on the list of potential projects or things to get
done… But if you know me, I'm going to add it just so I can cross it off. :) It's a Lister thing.
You would be proud of me though, I have worked on the
basement. Not necessarily in my rat pack
area, but I’ve clean out a lot of the rest of the basement….
In throwing things out and trips the local mission, I came
across this. It’s been in the basement for years, as you can tell from the
cobwebs and layer of dust. I was going
to donate it.
You remember these, right? CD storage! Well, this wouldn’t hold even 5% of my
husband’s collection. Not that we even
“use” CDs anymore. It’s all digital
now. Anyway, I held it back and thought,
“I can do something with this!”
Light bulb went off… well, actually, turned on.
I have this
terrible hot mess in my closet…
See? I
told you?
I’m really not as organized
and clean as I would really like to be.
Remember, in my last post, (25 Quirky Things about me) I hardly even make my bed.
I gotta do something.
I can’t stand to look at it anymore.
So, I got to work...
Took off the back.
Disassembled it.
I’m going to save these…. I can use them for “something”…
right?
Primer!
And then a couple of coats of this paint I had in the
basement. Some sorta taupe in high
gloss. Works for me!
Look at this cute wrapping paper! That will be so pretty for the backing,
right?
WRONG! Didn’t turn
out so cute.
Oh, well, I have this nice paisley fabric. Perfect!
I searched all over for as many cup hooks as I could
find.
Hubby had a ton in a jar in the
garage. Yay!
I spray painted them all white.
Then came the fun part… Not… I had to twist all those cup
hooks into the box. I was thought I was
going to get blisters! My fingers
survived. I did take a break here and
there. They were tough to get in! I know, I'm a baby.
Put the backing on, added a few picture hangers on the back. Perfection!!
A new Necklace Organizer!!
I'm sooo happy with the way it came out! Lovin the colors and everything!
I used that toothpaste trick I saw on Pinterest! Horrible picture, but it worked like a charm! I even re-measured to make sure I was
level. (That would make Hubby happy) I
was right on the money! Am I good or
what?!
Next came the fun part.
Putting all of my necklaces on the hooks.
I found some that I forgot about! Doesn’t it look great? I am totally LOVING this!!
Check out
the dresser, all clean off!
Now, I just
need to make one of those organizers for my earrings.
But they aren’t bugging me too much yet…. one
of these days…
Of couse, I have to do a before and after...
Have a blessed day!
Lori

How cute is that??? Love the way it turned out, and it keeps those necklaces from getting all tangled, like mine do! The fabric is awesome, too!! Glad to hear that toothpaste trick worked!

ReplyDeleteMaria Crafty Chic
Thanks, Maria!! I love it!
DeletePerfect solution to your necklace collection! Love how it turned out. I did something similar, only I used a fancy board and put hooks on, it hangs above my dresser where a mirror normally sits. I love it, but yours is so much nicer with the fabric backing!
ReplyDeleteSaw you at Adventures of a DIY Mom party.
Debbie :)

I just found this from the link party @OurDelightfulHome and I love how you completely repurposed the cd holder to actually be useful. I just blogged about my own necklace storage this morning: http://projectsatthepicketts.blogspot.com/2012/07/great-eye-dea.html?m=1
ReplyDeleteHi Kathleen. Thanks so much! Your necklace storage is great! Whatever works!
DeleteTurned out great! I am EXACTLY the same way with messes. I can live with something for months and then one day it's bugging me so bad I can't do anything else besides get it organized. Thanks for sharing at Terrific Tuesdays.

Hi Rachel! Thanks! Isn't it funny how that happens with messes?? Thanks for your encouragement!
DeleteFor earrings- A cute way is to get a large embroidery loop and use pretty lace. Glue pretty edging and ribbons on the outside and hang from a ribbon :) Costs about $10-$15 depending on what you have on hand- makes a great coming of age present too. You can also use the hanging ribbon to hold hair clips too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, Ashley! Thanks for stopping by! :)
Deletelooks amazing!!!!!!! great job!!!! thanks for sharing!!!

DeleteHi Lori
ReplyDeleteLove your idea. If you do it again for anything try staggering the hooks - it might make it easier to reach the back.
Love the idea
ReplyDeleteWhat is the toothpick trick?
It's actually the toothpaste trick. Where you put a dab of toothpaste on the hanger on the back and place on the wall where you want. Then take it down and there is the dab on the wall, where you can put the nail in the wall to hang. Works like a charm! Thanks for stopping by!!
