DIY Disaster....ugh....

Life at the Stonybrook House has truly been a little nutty.
These lovely magazine holders did not come out as planned, they took me on quite an adventure!

I wanted to do a cute little post, but it turned into a mess. 

Why is it that when you start something thinking this is going to be quick and easy and then it turns into a project that takes twice as long and becomes twice at hard.  

 Is there a life lesson there???

Anyway…. I have to admit I am a bit of a messy.  When you come to my house it looks pretty clean and tidy most of the time.
But…. Lurking behind closed doors or drawers or BASEMENTS…. 

It’s another story.  I’m a piler, a stuffer and a dumper…. 
So, I’m trying to stay focused on the office, right? I thought, “I know, I’ll work on my magazine piles” I literally  took pictures of all of the places I had piles of magazines.

How about 8 piles? Really?
So, I dumped them all in the family room and started organizing.
Say "Hi" to my kitty Arwen.

I had these lovely little magazine holders I bought a couple of years ago at 

IKEA (one my favorite places) I have a couple of orange ones and white ones.  

 Cute, I’ll just make them cuter by adding some stripes to them.  

 This is going to be easy! I put the painter’s tape on them and painted the white stripe. 

It was looking great until…. I started peeling the tape off.

What in the world happened?  Are you kidding me?  It started to take off the orange then just kept tearing EVERYTHING off…. UGH!   

Its painter’s tape, this isn’t supposed to happen!  This is NOT working, so I got a bit frustrated and took it out on those  poor magazine holders!  I started ripping off all of the tape.  I ruined them.  What in the world am I going to do now?  So much for a cute little post… Ha!  I must redeem these poor magazine holders! 

The next day I was off shopping.  What can I find?  I went to Hob Lob, Target, Jo-Ann’s.  I’m hunting for anything to cover these with.  Nothing, I couldn’t find anything I liked.  

 How close do you think I was to just pitch them? Well, very close….   

 I am so irritated with these things that I don’t want to even spend a dime on them.  

 To me they don’t DESERVE a dime to be spent on them.  What can I do?  Lord, help me!  What do I have in the “basement” that I could use?  Sheets!  I have sheets AND I have an adorable Martha stencil AND I have paints! Yes!

 I got to work that night!

I have to tell you, it took wwwaaayyy longer than I had planned. 
But I think they came out pretty cute.

 I have a few more to make to complete the collection.   

All of this for a few magazine holders? Really?  Oh well, they were practically free!  

  So, I’ll hang on to them, no fear of the trash can.
